xbox drive stopped reading all disks failed help needed

    hello all
my sons 360 drive has stopped reading all disks orginals backups and dvd's and i need to change the drive but dont want to f**k it up
my question is can i swap the drive with any dvd drive and flash the drive with latest firmware and spoof the drive key onto the new drive and will this fix the problem ?
also i have a old hitachi drive that was from an old pc will this drive do or has it got to be a xbox drive ?
think the xbox drive is an hitachi ms28 if memory servers me right with ixtreme 1.51 installed on it i've got the drive key so happy enough to mess with it

    thanks in advance pob639

it has to be a xbox drive. mate ms28 is a samsung drive so u've either got a samsung or hitachi. as long as u've got the drive key u can put any xbox drive in then will have to spoof it so the xbox thinks it still has the old drivein, so if ur replacing a hitachi with say a samsung u will have spoof the samsung as a hitachi

You will need to get a new drive, ebay probably best place. If its a hitachi i would be tempted to get a samsung drive. Hitachi drives cant be recovered from a bad flash.

If you want to dunp the drive, you will have to follow the jungleflasher guide in order to dump the original drive. Its not too hard just have a good read a couple of times.

just get a new laser for it they are about ?5. or if you do buy a new drive, get the same drive as it has in it, then just swap the circuit boards, if it is a hitachi you wont need to update from 1.51 cos thats the latest fw for hitachis.
