X box online --- easy question

    Hello All,,,,

When I am playing my Xbox360 online on a game such as PES2009 is that only against other xboxes, or do PS3 connect to the same server....??

I think the answer is no, but I have to check as I am stupid when it comes to consoles....

    THanks.

Pretty sure it's xbox live for xboxs's only as the live is hosted on Microshaft servers.

    Cheers

Depends on the game, publisher and developer.

I play a mate at Lost Planet, im on my 360 hes on his PC.
Some games do cross over, most however are platform specific.

would be the best invention ever if we could all play online against each other with whatever console we prefered..

If it was the actual games developer that provided the servers to connect to then I don't see why this couldn't be possible. Cut out xbox live,ps3 network...

think it goes beyond servers theres vast differences between the machines in processing power and operating systems too

Not in terms of network protocols their isnt.

I can set up a server and connect a PC, DBOX2, X360, PS3, Dreamcast, smartphone, commadore 64, Amiga 1200 and a microwave to it.
All of which have completely different capabilities.

As long as it has the ability to handle a very small set of network protocols then communication isnt an issue.

The only reason that eveerything doesnt talk to each other is down to marketing and business politik than any technical limitation.

Sony and Microsoft wont ever talk to each other purely for business reasons, if you can play against all your friends on any platform then you wont buy into a specific platform.
If i can play against all my friends for free over PSN then what reason would i have to subscribe to LIVE.

The reasons as with most thing boil down not to technical limits but to money and greed.

i dont understand how if im playing say fifa on an xbox 360 and cross the ball then how can a network tell the ps3 of my oppenent that i have crossed the ball unless it sends some sort of command to the cpu of that ps3.

                      Xbox live is for Xbox
                      PSN is for PS3
Although there are some(like 1 or 2) games that I think are cross platform
