Eject button not working, soft eject does???

Got a strange one here. Been handed a 360 to play with & try to get working. It now has 2 faults.

1. E71 after about 20mins of game play.

2. The eject button doesn't work. But the dashboard open/close function does work.

The case is 100% intact so it's not just the peg leading to the recessed button.
It has had the x-clamps removed, but the E71 issue was there before this work was done.
Tried holding the sync button down while turning on, problem not resolved.

Could these problems be linked? Any ideas?

my guess would be a busted microswitch on the drive unit, if it was a motor failure or power issue it wouldnt eject from the dash.

Id dismantle and rebuild checking that the button definately isnt the issue then check the micro switch with a continuity test.

Gave up on it. It was heading down a south bridge area & I'm not motivated enough to try anything else.
