    Max 360 drive size.

Anyone know what the maximum hard drive size you can put on an Xbox 360? Was considering replacing my crappy 20GB one for a 600GB one. Is it possible to go up that high?

Anyone done this type of mod and know how to do it? (step by step would be helpful) and a link to any software needed to do the job as well please

    Thanks.
    Baz.

    250gb

you need to use a specific drive in order to spoof the firmware to avoid a ban.

everyything you'll need is in this thread:

      So I can't use a 600GB drive then?

Not worried about a ban, my 360 doesn't go online anyway, just wanted the larger drive in there to install the games on I do play instead of them having to run off the disk which sometimes causes choppy video. The DVD has 1.61 Ixtreme firmware installed anyway.

Did read somewhere that Microsoft was going to be releasing a 1TB drive for the 360 this is why I thought I could use a 600GB no problem. I know it has to be formatted as Fat32 and you need a partitioning program to do that as Windows won't.

Its actualy xfat and not fat32, you d however still need the firmware to make the xbox think its using an official drive or it wll spit the dummy.

If a 1tb drive does get released then it will be a matter of minuites till the firmware hits the net, as it stands presently the upper limit is 250gb

You could slap the 600gb drive in but it will only format to 250gb

The only way around this would be to jtag your unit i guess

Okay thanks for the information I'm now wondering though if it's possible to partition the drive and get the Xbox t recognise multiple 250GB partitions and work with them. Any ideas on this one?

Short answer: no the 250gb is already in 3 partitions.
250gb is the upper limit of the firmware.

I suppose you could hardware mod an appropriate drive but it would be extremely complicaed, you'd need to solder another eeprom to the drive, cut a few traces and install a chip select switch in the housing, then you would need to write custom firmware by hand that specifies the start sectors of each chips drive parition to spoof the drive into thinking it was actualy two drives.
