Hitachi flash error

just been flashed with relevant firmware and only plays originals now. when i put a backup into the drive i just get open tray any ideas?

Sounds like it doesnt like the Discs you are using. Lasers on the hitachi's can be weak with some discs as they are quite old drives. Burn another disc and see what happens.

i have a spare philips laser could i swap that with hitachi one ?

I had exactly the same prob with my hitachi, I increased the power of the laser, google it as its easy to do, still had same problem. Sorted it by buying verbatim discs and all worked fine. Hitachi's are very fussy, get some verbs i think this will sort you out as you cant really go wrong with flashing the hitachi.

I know they can be quite cheap online but for a quick fix i shot into currys who sell the verb dual layer.

thanx for all the info lads . i am using verb discs but i have not tweaked the laser yet. i will try that if not i will get another one (laser) off ebay and see if that works.

download the pdf, looks a little complicated but actually once you start taking your drive apart it will all be clear and it is really easy, just need a multimeter, to adjust the resistance i found it easier to turn with my fingers

bought a cheap multimeter today about six quid . tinkered with the pot for about 20 mins got it to read all discs well chuffed.
