It was as predictable as the end of a Michael Bay movie, but it seems that the world will soon be treated to a new Xbox 360 model together with a Blu-ray drive.
According to DigiTimes, quoting sources from Taiwan, "if" Microsoft does decide to incorporate Blu-ray drives into its new 360 then the retail price will be "lower than the corresponding production costs".
Incorporated Blu-ray drives are said to cost ?45-50 a pop compared to the ?9-10 cost of standard DVD-ROM drives currently built into the 360 and this will represent a hefty increase in production costs for the company.
But rather than pass the cost onto the consumer, Microsoft is expected to suck up the losses so as not to price itself out of the console market, although it seems it could recoup soe losses by selling all their very-soon-to-be redundant HD-DVD drives on eBay for the price of some salted nuts.
