Help/Advice on 360 networked

I want to connect my sons 360 to the network so he can stream music and films to it but concerned about it updating or connecting to live ( soft modded box)

Is there any settings that will stop updating or is it best not to connect to network at all?

simple, for net only access just manualy input the DNS to 0.0.0.0 for both the primary and secondaries.

This means that it can access the local network but will be unable to connect to the internet.
