Xbox Live Dash Update

hi guys new to xbox,my 360 arcade with hitachi drive is new,want to get it flashed soon.the prob is i tried to sign up 2 xbox live and it asked to update,should i update now or wait till i get it flashed,many thanks.

Take advice from a reputable modder-bear in mind if you have the box flashed there are no guarantees it will not be detected by Microsoft-then the box will be banned and there's no fix for that.The latest firmware is the safest so far but so was the last.My own 360 had the then latest firmware but was found and banned very quickly.It doesn't affect me greatly as I'm happy just to have my cheap games but if you love Live (as my Son does) it may be unwise.There are loads of cheap 360's second hand so it might be worthwhile buying one,having it modded and leave your lovely new one solely for genuine games for going on Live.Cost for modding is around ?25 for latest firmware.Some newer games will not play if it's older firmware.Hope this helps,Craig.

cheers craigyj,not to bothered about playing online,just need to no if i can update now and get it flashed later,or will update affect flash and not be able to play the new backup games,cheers mate.

If its a hitachi drive then the latest fw you can use is 1.51, and this will get you banned from live.

Yeah thats right, but if you go on 1.51 you will get banned, there is no way around it.

cheers again janobi,just a couple of questions tho 1,i can update now as i can not get banded as xbox is new and not flashed.2,want 2 to get it flashed soon but will update affect a future flash. 3,when its flashed with 1.51 i will get banded either way with a update or not, or will there be a new firmware out soon to bypass the update.thanks

Take the front off, and look at the wire colour, will tell you which drive it is then.

Red = samsung
Black/none = hitachi
White = Benq
Yellow = Liteon

yes def hitachi,date 2009.08,sorry when i meant new, as bought of a friend and only used a few times and never bothered with the xbox live as he could not hook up to internet,took face plate of and can not see any wires where diagram shows me to look to see which drive it is.thanks to you both.
