    xbox 360 disc drive repair

    hi
ive got an xbox 360 with a disc drive that wont open unless you have a disc in it,
basically you have to take it apart if you close the disc drive with out a disc in, other wise no eject.
any ideas why this is and how to repair?

Check the sliders? Maybe fluff and gunk on them. Clean them down with some alcohol cleaner. Also Check the top metal case to see if its maybe catching.

Does the drive sound like it wants to eject without a disc in it?

When screwing the drive back together dont overtighten the scres.

            xbox 360 disc drive repair

            Puxxxter,

Cool down dude before you blow a gasket. I was in the same boat as you. My xbox gave up the ghost even after an RROD repair i did myself, still it lasted about 10 months after my fix.
In the end I bought an arcade version from argos for a ton earlier in the year.

Since i had a bit of time on my hands i thought i'd get the old xbox out and tinker with it. Replaced the xclamp and got rid of it as well as the washers i used and just used machine bolts.

Anyhoo like yours the DVD drive was dodgy, would come out of it's own accord and got jammed often.
I stripped it down completely gave it a good old clean with brake cleaner (or you can use an alcohol based cleaner) and lubed up the runners with white grease, put back together and it worked a charm.

Also played around with the dvd drives firmware and now playing backup games perfectly, although kinda new to modding n stuff I don't go on XBL.

Bill Gates won't be getting any of my money, at least not for a while since i'm on a break from work.....

The internet is your friend...ixtreme and jungleflasher to start you off are some of the things you need to change your DVD's firmware...

            Good luck

You could always replace the drive.

Yep, you could replace the drive, but you'd need to spoof the new drive to replicate your old drive and you'll need to extract the unique key too. Besides i've read that MS can spot these easily and you get an instant ban on XBL? Is this correct?

My advice would be to strip it down again, follow my suggestion in my earlier post. The alternative is to get the same make dvd drive (H+L, TSST etc.) and swap over the PCB (circuit board) of the drive, that way there is no need to spoof.

                  Regards,

My advice? Get same make and revision drive, insert your firmware, no need to swap pcbs.
As for spoofing, its recomended to aviod now, but dont know anyone banned from it either. Only recomended to aviod since last update

Spoofing can get you banned c4 confirmed it. Just get same drive and replace after inserting your unique drive key.
