As above, this is just another form of the RROD. If it's out of warrenty you can fix this with this repair kit & the xbox opening tool.

The listed repair kit is my prefered option. The bolt heads are the thinnest & best fitting that I've been able to find. He also has a kit which includes both T8 & T10 heads needed to take the xbox apart.

The opening tool makes the first part of dissassembly a lot easier. The seller offers this free with his ?3.99 repair kit, but the kit is pants. All posi screw kits I've tried have been oversized & cause problems with excessive board flaexing.

My first repair took me about 90mins to do, it now takes me 40mins. If you've ever worked on a PC this will be very easy. There are loads of posts on this, but can also check llamma.com

don't waste your time fixing it.

it will only last 1month. best thing to do is get it reballed.

best fix to do is only 3 red lights, all the xboxes with 3 red lights i have fixed are still going and its been over 1 year!

has anyone else fixed 1 red or 2 red lights? how long did it last for?

The following are all symptoms of the same thing....

No video, but you do have sound

          1 red light with E74

          3 red lights (RROD)

All have the same chance of repair duration, this all comes down to how badly warped the board is & how cool you keep the chips when playing games.

2 red lights is an overheat problem. On the older machines this is directly linked to the main CPU. Later consoles also have a sensor on the GPU.
But the fix is the same in most cases... take off & re-paste the heatsinks.

I fixed my xbox 2 years ago & it's still going strong, but I modded the cooling when I fixed it. Check out the gallery in my profile for the cooling mod.

Where are you in the country? I saw a post in the RROD repair sticky from a member in Newcastle who does the full reflow.

But his last visit to DK was in June this year. A PM may bring him out of hiding if he still uses the registered email address.
