    replace dvd drive question

    Hi

Chap at work needs to put a new drive in his 360 and has asked me to do it. I realise i need to spoof the key across and was wondering if i am right in thinking.....

connect old drive and read key and save it
turn ck3 off and disconnect old drive
    connect new drive
download original firmware for the new drive
    load key and spoof
flash new drive with original fw with spoofed key

Is this correct? is there an easy tut to do this?

    Regards

Its the EXACT same principle. Read, spoof write, however C4e recomends keeping same drive instead of spoofing over from say BenQ to Samsung

Finally, chap at work gave me his 360 to look at, he hasnt got another drive yet because i said i'd have a look first.

Drive is a liteon 74580 and it wont read discs, I have up'd the power of the laser and no different, laser moves back and forth and laser light flashes as if all working fine and disc spins up.

I flashed the drive and tried it and no different, I then flashed again with my key from my 360 and tried it in my 360 and still nothing.

Any ideas? or would this basically mean its knackered?

            Regards

Lasers dead. So either replace the laser, or the drive.

Even though the laser moves fine and the red laser light works? took top of dvd drive and watched the laser when opening and closing the tray

Liteons 7 series have big problems with lasers i found. Theyre cheap enough off ebay to replace though.

Just a thought, I did notice that the 360 had been opened before, if someone had replaced the drive without knowing about spoofing key would the drive act in the same way and not read discs?

If this is the case, is there a way I can find out the original key for the 360?

I suppose one way is to spoof the key to another drive I have to confirm key key correct for the 360. The key belongs to a liteon drive, and the other 2 drives I have are hitachi and samsung, would one of these drives be better for trying this?

                    Regards

If its the wrong drive, you would get play DVD only. If its the right drive, but knackered, then you get open tray error.

You can spoof a samsung as the liteon no problem or even the hitachi. It does not really matter which.

If the key did not belong to the xbox then you would only be able DVD Movies. Games would not boot.

As for spoofing tho, it is now not safe for live purposes, if you come to replace the drive, best to be replaced with a liteon drive off ebay (Approx ?20)

Thanks guys, i was getting open tray before i killed it, so right key then, waiting for via card to arrive to put firmware back on and when thats done then i'll be ordering a new laser by the sounds of it.

From what you guys say then i think this is the route to go, didnt want to throw money at it if it wont work even when fixed but i think one step at a time and it will be working eventually

                            Thanks for help

You can get lasers for under ?8 on ebay delivered. Also you cannot spoof a drive using LT+. It will not allow you to spoof drives when using LT+.
