Open tray error on my backups.

I have a flashed xbox idk the firmware a friend of mine did it, and for some reason the backup games i have made havnt worked, but the ones he made for me have, i am burning using imgburn and a lg gp08nu6b portable supermulti drive on verbatim disks.

my friends backups work everytime along with the real games, but my backups rarely work. usually what happens is i put the disk in the tray and open and close the tray for 20 minutes before the xbox reads the disk, both games i have tried have followed the same pattern, where they usually work in 2 or 3 tries fresh out of the burner but then later it seems to take almost an hour of opening and closing the tray to get the game to work.

What drive do you have in the xbox?

Also what media disks are you using to burn the games to?

Sounds to me like the lasers on its way out.

not sure about the xbox drive nor am i sure or the firmware, i didnt do the work my self. the backups i have made are the ones that havnt been worinking, i have tried following several different tutotials as well as direct instruction from my friend.

as far as the media i am using, verbatim dvd+r dl 2.4x disks

my assumption is that the drive i am burning on isnt very good as it is a usb drive, but im not sure. what might cause them to work only a low percentage of times.

when i run agbx360 on the disks everything checks out.

      edited twice to add information

I reckon its the laser in the xbox to be honest. With you saying they load after so long then it means the discs are burned properly.

Although it could be the external drive. How long does it take to burn a disc? Does it buffer a lot or does it stay at 100% most of the time?

the buffer says 100 percent 100 percent of the time. the weird thing is that it only does it with my backups, i had my friend make the other ones, but with my copy of skate 3 mauled beyond belief i cannot get the backup to work. the only other backup that i need to use is fifa 11 and that disk works 100% of the time. and it takes about 45 mins to burn, another 30 or so to verify when i choose to do so.

i can understand why you say it might be the xbox laser but from what i can see it looks alot more like the problem is the burner (hope its the burner because i am more quiopped to handle that problem), i will be swapping the external burner for an internal one later.

thanks for the help so far scott.

I use 2 internal Burners. One asus and the other is a cheapo. ?20 i got it for. Works fine no coasters.

People recoomend different type but in my experience it dont really matter.

            Hope you get it sorted.

i just returned the lg burner in exchange for a pioneer burner, and re-burnt on of the backups, so far i have had no open tray errors with it. looks like it was the drive i was burning on not the drive in the xbox. if so i'm glad because its a fix at no cost.
