    they ask for your account details, then all she has to do is go on the phone and agree to let you talk for her.
    then you can deal with them...

    i'm on 20meg too, basic tv and phone.

    last time i phoned they reduced my bills, went from ?42 down to ?31.....
    I'm also in the same position but they normally just ask for the name on the account (hers) and the password. Once I have given those it's usually ok.

    I presume because of the location of the call centres they don't know the difference between commonly male or commonly female names.

    We have been on 50meg for a while and 100 is available in our area, I just don't seem to download as much as I used to.

      It doesnt matter what port you use of if you employ SSL or not they use deep packet inspection and so are able to detect P2P and usenet traffic. If your node is busy and you are downloading you will be throttled during the specified times.

        Have VM officially started using DPI-over-SSL across the board ? from the reading i done, it's some scary-ass shit.. sureley it's gotta be illegal ? If i sat and intercepted Bransons encrypted data packets, de-coded them , had a nose through, re-coded and then signed them with a fake cirtificate.. i'd get a knock on the door from the rozzers ?

          AFAIK they are not looking inside of SSL. What they are doing is a protocol anaylsis so changing ports has no effect.

          Do not know if they are doing this but seeing as virgin know the IP address of the common newsgroup sservers it would be easy enough to throttle those IP addresses.

          I assume they are doing somethng similar to this as SSL does not seem to have any effect on throttling.

                  Fastest and probably safest way to get just about every movie, music, game, app, common TV show, ebook or media file you can think off.

                    see here for wiki info Usenet newsgroup - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

                    binary newsgroups allow peeps to download files posted by others at full connection speed , no matter how many seeds/peers ... if you're with VM, follow guide linked at the top and give it a 'wazz'.

                    EDIT : I've stolen the 1st paragraph of wiki's explination of using newsgroups for filesharing ;
                    While newsgroups were not created with the intention of distributing binary files, they have proven to be quite effective for this. Because of the way they work, a file uploaded once will be spread and can then be downloaded by an unlimited number of users. More useful is that every user is drawing on the bandwidth of his or her own news server. This means that unlike P2P technology, the user's download speed is under his or her own control, as opposed to under the willingness of other people to share files. In fact, this is another benefit of newsgroups: it is usually not expected that users share. If every user makes uploads then the servers would be flooded; thus it is acceptable and often encouraged for users to just leech.
