    Too subjective to answer, have you used linux before? (ubuntu)
    Do you prefer performance to appearance?
    What will PC mainly be used for?
    For that spec Windows 7 x64 will run quite well but really it depends on use.

      With a quad core cpu and 4Gb of ram I see no reason to run anything other than Win7.

      Are you looking for better performance in games, if so buy a decent gamers GFX card.

        Was just thinking that , though as a media player XBMC is very good.

          with a good GFX card , that system'll keep up with most thing you'd throw at it... but you know that right ?
          Gotta be win7 x64 (to make use of 4GB ram)
          look at overclocking CPU ? Free , long as you got good cooling
          RAID HDDs ? Cheap/free if your mobo has built in RAID controller
          GFX card ? Expensive..... 512 ded GPU you say... laptop ? built-in graphics chipset ?

          Benefits of setting up a RAID-0 array;

          This is my 'normal' samsung 500GB HDD

          This is my pair of 500GB samsung HDDs in RAID-0
          (created a 'short-stroked' 200GB volume using 100GB on the start of each disk)

          Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz, 4GB ram @~1333, RAID-0, 2x4870s in crossfire

            Win7 64-bit would seem the natural choice.

            What are you using the PC for ?
