Rapidshare or not?

i just got some new news on the rapidshare file hosting site, they emailed me this info and i was woundering if anyone could tell me if its worth renewing my member ship with them as i have tried filesonic and that is a waste of time as the download speeds on files are disgustingly slow, anyway heres the info

I'd consider a usenet account if were you. Costs about $10-$15 per month and has pretty much everything you could want.

Rapidshare is useful if you want to upload files for others to download but if you are just downloading then nothing beats usenet.

Have a search around, you can get astranews accounts for $11 or newsdemon for $7 a month. Both unlimited downloads and will max out a 50mb link.

L use both and there great , here are things on rapidshare u can't get on newgroups tho , le Microsoft stuff and some cracks , but l use to save my info to and share downloads and l do upload to newsgroups now and again too tho

I am guessing that there is more stuff on usenet that is not on rapidshare.

BTW, got a note from giganews as they are now upto 1,000 retention. They currently use 9,000 TB of storage and they are adding more.

I can't look beyond usenet for downloading. There is vast amounts of stuff available (and vast amounts of junk too I admit), and speeds will consistently max out your connection. There's also security. Torrents downloading for example is pretty transparent and many people have been caught out using them. Most usenet accounts include 256-bit SSL encryption and giganews also include a VPN to encrypt all your other traffic. Also, I'm not sure what rapidshare policy is but usenet downloads are not logged.

If you love torrents and http downloading services, then fine, I don't want to argue about it, this is just my preference.

i would just like to download only not upload ino it sounds abit bad but i dont really share anything as i have nothing to share but i recently payed filesonic for 6 motnhs sub and every download i tried would always give me a download speed of 25kb approx for a 200mb file where as rapidshare would give me min 985kb per second per 200mb file and thats always but as nobody uses rapidshare anymore to upload files i really am in need of a top download site, im going to look into usenet.

here's a getting started in usenet guide. As I mentioned if you are on virgin or BT, they offer 30 days retention usenet for free as part of your account. Else dig around the web, newsdemon did an offer for $7 a month with 900+ days retention.

Pretty much any app, movie, mainstream TV show, music, game, ebooks, etc published in the last 5 years.

As I mentioned, the paid for providers now have around 9,000TB of files dating back almost 3 years.

i looked up on all the stuff you mentioned it sounds really good i have never come across that kind of way to download before it seems abit technical but looks really worth it

nothing good comes easy. Yes it requires some techinical knowledge and know how to get it working. It helps keep the dummies away. But the effort is well work it and there are plenty of people on here to help answer any questions.

Only problem is that at the moment its still low profile compared to web downloads, torrents and P2P. As more people move to it then I am sure the varies media companies will came after the main usenet providers with more vigour. The main indexing site (newzbin) was taken down last year. There are ways of downloading without NZB but they really make life easier.

Newzbin was back up in a matter of days, and is still going strong, and I cant see it being taken down anytime soon.

All the big newsgroups comply with the DMCA take down requests, so are operating within the law. For those in the know, its not to much of an issue.
