I bought an external dual 3.5" sata hdd enclosure by mistake, all my drives are IDE, could anybody suggest a sata to ide adapter that would allow me to use it, it would have to be compact to fit in the box along with the two hard drives, but I could posssibly modify the case.
sata to IDE adapter?

Google bi-directional sata to ide adapter, without seeing the external HDD enclosure would be hard to guess if it will fit. Most enclosures are designed with both connections or little room for extras. Could the place you bought it not exchange it?
If I could see the dimensions of the enclosure may be able to help more.
On second thoughts, could you just remove the sata board inside the enclosure and replace with the appropriate pata version. May have to make a few adjustments but should work.Last edited by SouthernComfort; 7 May, 2011, 13:25."What we've got here is failure to communicate." -
tbh,
you can get ide external enclosures very cheap nowadays,
i got one from maplins a few month ago for 25quid,
by the time you find and pay for an adaptor (which probably won't fit in you unit properly) it might be easier just to but a cheap ide enclosuer... maybe evan try selling the sata one.....Comment

Scrap the enclosure
$17.20 - USB 2.0 to All IDE/SATA HDD Adapter Converter Cable - Hardware Parts
Has to be some way you could rework that, not much value but a good project nonetheless.
One user even fried a HDD using it.Last edited by SouthernComfort; 8 May, 2011, 21:00."What we've got here is failure to communicate."Comment
