You should be able to change the recording mode to suit the time you require..
On a Panasonic for instance the recording modes are..
XP (high quality) is 1 hour per disc.
SP (standard play) is 2 hours per disc.
LP (long play) is 4 hours per disc.
EP (extended play) is 8 hours per disc.Comment

Other than using the panasonic recording modes or dual layer disks you have only one realistic option....
Convert the VHS videos to .avi (divx) format on a computer then store them as divx on the DVD disks.
A lot of dvd players now support divx playback. You should be able to hold the equivilent of 8 or more hours of vhs recordings on one dvd.Canker

somebody has moved this into the computer section but i'm not using a computer to tranfer between vhs to disc just a normal dvd recorder,i just wondered if you could get blank discs for sp recording for over 2 hours.Comment

Do you mind me asking if they are personal or are they movies? reason i ask is you can probably download better quality rather than transfering.
Also have you tried recording them in 3hour or 4hour mode and is the difference noticeable?
to answer your main question there is no such thing as a 2/3/4/5/6hour disc as such, its more to do with quantity of data to produce a certain quality when you are talking in terms of video. as the guys mentioned above a dual layer will hold almost twice the data of a single layer dvd
post make model of your dvd recorder and ill search if it will record dual layerComment

some are movies others like football and boxing, i've never downloaded movies or anything as i've heard it takes hours. i only ever recorded onto disc once in lp from the satellite reciever but it was very poor and some of the tapes are already in lp so not the best quality to begin with,i'll just have to keep the longer ones on vhs.Comment
