    speed

i have just had virgin in to up me to the 50meg speed and i do a speed test and it says 46 on average which is fine but when i download on newsleech 3.9 it fluxuates a lot it goes from 3.6m/bits down to 1.19 m/bits any ideas why it fluxuates so much ? it was fine when i was on 10meg it always stayed on 1.19m.bit

    cheers

you know there are throttling periods for usenet and P2P ?

Check the virginmedia website, can't be bothered to type the times again.

Actually it will fluxate depending on local. And speed is not half, its up to a 3/4 reduction.

Have you tried virgins own servers or free trial with giganews or astraweb ?

If you can, change your SSL port. I know Giga offer 2 SSL ports, 443 and the standard 561 (er, I think). The latter suffers from traffic management, but when using 443 I get my 50mb connection consistently maxed out.

Since you've been a usenet user for years you probably know this but make sure your connections are set to 20 in your server settings. Having few connections can cause speed fluctuations.
