Check the DHCP in your router it will show all connections

Another thing to check is which ports are visible to the outside world. For most people the answer to this should be none and as a result your ip address should not even admit it exists (stealth). But if you are running a web server or some other application that people need to log on to then some ports should be visible, but only the bare minimum, all other ports should be closed (hidden).
This site GRC|Gibson Research Corporation Home Page will try to access you computer over a range of ports or by specific ports and tell you which ones are visible to the outside world. Follow the link that says ShieldsUp! just over half way down the page.The site is very good for security information.

If you unplug your modem for Five minutes or so you should get a new ip address. You can type Ipconfig /release in a cmd prompt or even ask your provider how long the modem has to be off for a new ip address or ask them to change your ip address for you.

Thanks i think i worded that wrong, I have a dyndns address Which someone set up for me and now i have a massive problem how do i get to look at my dyndns and see if its been changed, and can i get to it to change it?

Assuming you are running windows. Get to a command prompt as explained further up the page (Start - Run - Cmd.exe return).
Then ping what ever your dyndns name is eg "ping www.bbc.co.uk" which replies from 212.58.246.91.
Since you are not the bbc i assume yours would be something different.
Your Router should automatically update the dyndns address, although i don't know how long it will take to do it.

Disconnecting the modem for 5 mins will not always give you a new ip, it often doesn't.

In my experience unless your router has a security flaw or a stupid configuration then any intrusion is usually from the inside out. IE software on an infected machine contacting a bot network.

If you have wifi make sure its using at least WPA, or ideally WPA2 and change your key.

Make sure that in the router control panel you have disabled the admin page for external (wan) connections. If in any doubt with your router config post up a screen-shot before playing.. its quite easy to do something silly security wise or break connectivity when you get in there.

I'm not sure i fully understand what your saying m8 but assuming you mean what i think , login to dyndns.com and it will show you your username and present ip. You can download a dyndns updater which will periodically check and synch your ip address.

His Dyndns might also be synced via the router as quite a few support that.
