I would like to downgrade from Win 7 to XP pro, can I do this and not destroy my computer? I have an HP mini and HP said the hd can't support XP it was made for 7, is this wrong? I have Win 7 Ultimate and I still think it sucks. I do like XP Mode but it is a little slow, can i make XP mode my default os. I don't want to screw anything up. Any help would be great.

Never heard of a HDD only being usable on Win 7. The problem is that XP formats the hard drive, so you will lose all your data. I would suggest a dual-boot setup, but you'll need a partition to install XP on. You can 'shrink' your primary drive partition by Xgb and assign a drive letter. To shrink a volume, press START > right-click MY COMPUTER > select 'manage' > select DISK MANAGEMENT > select your main volume, right-click and select 'SHRINK'.I would like to downgrade from Win 7 to XP pro, can I do this and not destroy my computer? When you've given the new partition a letter, reboot with a Windows XP CD inserted and boot from it. Chose the new partition to install to. -
Thanks for the reply, I tried to just install XP and I couldn't. So I tried duel-boot I got a seprate partiton but when I go to format it it tries to make it a dynamic drive not a basic. I'm at wits end. I use the "New Simple Volume Wizard" it goes all the way to the end, i click finish than it says "the operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk to dynamic disk" than i quit. I cant format the new partition so I can install XP on it. What do I do? I need and iditots guide please. It tells me about the dynamic disk even if I choose not to format.Never heard of a HDD only being usable on Win 7. The problem is that XP formats the hard drive, so you will lose all your data. The problem that I have when I put the cd in (i need to use an external cd) it starts to load after a few mins it tells me there is no hdd is detected and than quits. Is there some thing else i need to do i did it a while back with another netbook( it allready had xp home installed) I used it as a new install not an upgrade(wanted to start clean) and it worked. I just want xp, so does my wife on her netbook. I got it to make duel partitions but it made my disk dynamic but thats ok.A DAY YOU DIDN'T LEARN SOMTHING NEW IS A WASTED DAY.
