My CPU

OK, my CPU is an intel core 2 duo E6300 at 1.86 GHz, according to CPU-Z. Does this mean I have 2 cores?

And on the windows vista system, it says it is Intel Core 2 6300 @ 1.86 GHz 1.87GHz, why are there two numbers? Does this mean that one core is 1.86 GHz, and the other is 1.87 GHz?


Would I need to get a better processor to run games?

Yes you have 2 cores, wouldn't really worry about the 0.1 difference.

That cpu will be ok for games.

It has more to do with the video card mate.

The first number is the listed speed for the processor, the second number is the actual speed.

If you were to overclock the processor the first number would stay the same but the second would increase to show the new speed.

One some processors the 1.86Ghz is the combined speed of both cores. The Atom processor is like this, my netbook quotes 1.6Ghz dual core. Each core runs at 800Mhz.

Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Processors

This will show what each core is doing.
