    Which version of Windows?

You can install from any windows disk of the same level, i.e XP Home, & change the key to activate. As long as that key is only used on one machine at any one time you will be fine.

If it is XP, I have a walkthrough kicking about on my stairs that I could PM you.

If it's windows 7 you just have to type in the key on the system page found in the control panel

But you won't be able to use an XP Home key with an XP Pro installation.

If the system you are going to be using has a 1.6GHz dual core processor & 2GB RAM or higher I'd be installing Windows 7. There are plenty of downloads available, or a disk could be sent to you.

you can not install it again to another machine because when you connect to internet and it get update...the microsoft just know that your installed windows machine is the only one....if you try it to another machine...it will known as piracy

Bear in mind a lot of M$ OS's are sold as OEM with a new PC, which effectively ties them to that one particular machine for life with no right to transfer to any other machine even if you scrap the original.
