    Hi

I have an acer aspire 5738z and the boot up is very slow.

I gets to the sign in screen easy but when you log in it takes forever to load, but the guest profile works fine

    anyone had a similar problem?

    Thanks

If you use a program called CCleaner there is a tab on there to show you what is booting up at the start. You can also choose to disable these from booting at the start, or just remove them if you no loonger need them.

laptop may slow down because to heavy program to open at first boot or may get virus or harm attacked....so check out your protection is good or not.

besides ccleaner you can try another software like tune up utilities...or any else

start, run, then type msconfig.exe into the box. and enter.
start up programmes seriously you only need ur av to start up with windows, anything else isnt gone, but will start up when you tell it.
so, untick everything except your av, reboot and notice the difference.

i agree with masur123 and shadyback

you need to do your maintaince on your computer i think

you should use ccleaner to check for any invalid entries on the registry and
defragment the registry. invalids can build up when you install then unistall
because there links in the registry that are for apps arent there anymore and
can cause instabilty issues if not removed.

you should also defragment your hard drive partition as well you can either use
ccleaner or the windows tool to do it.

to minimize the apps on your taskbar you can use msconfig or ccleaner which
is becoming more introduced with the software nowadays.

for a tutorial on msconfig if you need.
                http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_win7.html

now id recommend using your security softwares
(if you dont have installed ive provided some links for you)

                youll need an
                Antivirus
(Norton 360 V5 90 Day Trial) Just to Make Sure Systems Safe

                Antispyware
                (Superantispyware Free Version)
                SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloading File
                and Anti-Malware (MalwareBytes Free Version)
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for free - Fileforum

also you might want to do this

                Right Click on Computer
                Advanced System Settings-Advanced-Performance Settings
                Untick The Following Boxes:

Animate controls and elements inside windows
Animate windows when minimizing and mazimizing
                Fade slide menus into view
Fade or slide toooltios into view
                Save taskbar thumbnail preview
                Slide open combo boxes

Right Click computer Remote Untick Allow
Remote Assistance connections to this computer
Select Dont allow Connections to this computer

(just enable it when you need it which is usually never)

                then

Control Panel -Taskbar-Start Menu- Untick the 2 boxes in Privacy.

And just Pin the Applications you want to use by Right Click on
and Pin to Start Menu so it saves the memory.

                just a further note

id also recommend disabling guest once you get your account sorted if there only
one person using the computer and to help prevent security issues.

Why would we want to instal more software thats going to bloat his system and slow it down further?

Shady's answer is the right start. (msconfig)

You could stop using certain services in the services options (services.msc in run box)

See how nobody has asked how much ram and what is the operating system? Vista and win 7 dont run to well on less than 2gb of ram (ddr2 or higher)

A tip for future instal of software, like chrome ect is dont instal 3rd party software, for instance, if installing a program like firefox, it asks you if you want to instal the google toolbar, select NO, this kind of thing slows programs down ect.

I say this enough time, i do a complete format every few months now to keep my system clean and upto scratch.

One of the worst is having network shares, with the reconnect at login ticked, and those shares not being available. Windows will serch for them on statup and take an age before it times out.
