Mick i was told by a computer engineer to remove it unless i was using the laptop on battery. Dont keep it charging while switched on and using it.

if battery is removed and you lose power as in plug gets pulled out can you not do more damage?maybe just run on battery then power on when low

          Hi
Pretty sure the laptop charging circuitry in a newish laptop is smart enough to run from mains when connected and charge only when needed, so would not recommend removing battery ever - if you accidentaly kick the power lead you could cause HDD crashes and lots of other issues. Laptop from a while back may not have been as smart but they have it sussed now.

When you are at home desolder battery of laptop and use only sector, when you are in displacement disconnect all element you don't use like wireless...etc
But a little charge is not a bad thing if you are not using for a long time.Don't forget, let a battery never charged kill it.

If you have the latest laptop, the battery will look after itself to preserve its lifetime. Older batteries are better if you run them flat and then recharge fully and run flat and recharge fully, etc.

thanks for the post dude, its unusual to get a newcomer posting advice early on, especially in their first post.
a first post is usually asking for help.
hope you stay with us and enjoy all the forum has to offer.

I always remove the charger when battery is fully charged - over charging the battery will accelerate the wear level.

When using it on just battery it is best to optimize the power saving options for the most battery life.

                          Hi
The circuitry in a newish laptop will stop charging the battery when its full, there is no need to pull mains power, you will shorten the life of your battery by doing this, as the batterys have 300 cycle charge/ discharge life, then the laptop starts running out of battery power quicker, best to leave mains power connected when you can.
                          Regards
                          Al

Its difficult to give a definitve answer as there are so many different battery types in use and even more laptop types with different charging circuitry (even different batches of the same product may have different battery/charger).

Generally, if you can run on mains and your laptop supports it then its best to simply disconnect the battery pack. Whether you disconnect the battery in a charged or discharged state really depends on the battery type and the circumstances (whether you expect the mains usage to be short or long term).

alistairlee yes some newer laptops do stop the charge when 100% is reached, but others will only do this if you change the software setting.
It's probably best to look at the power management software included on many laptops, they usually include hints & tips.
