A recovery disc will load all the software and drivers for the laptop it was designed for. Your best bet is to burn an oem version of windows and manually install the drivers after.

Search for 'Windows 7 x86 SP1' on either newsgroups or torrents for the latest 32bit version. There's a crack that will turn it into a volume license version. Can't remember the name ATM though.

On many Sony models, holding alt + F10 at boot will start the factory restore process from a built in recovery partition.
once restored burn the correct dvd,s off by using the vaio recovery wizard in control panel.

                  if using alt & f10 doesn't work,
try pressing f8 on start up, when the menu appears select repair your computer,
then look for restore factory settings from vaio recovery or something similar.
usually the bottom option in the box.
