windows xp professional cant log on need user name and password

cant get onto computer when start up in any mode after pressing f8 ie safe mode /or any other mode it keeps coming up on screen in a box ie windows xp professional log on to windows username /password required could any one show me how to get by this problem i havent got the pass word or user name computer worked fine a week ago ?

depends on your computer but it's usually f2 after first boot screen but before windows easiest way is to tap f2 every half second or so after you power on comp.
