use msconfig/start up tab and untick the box next to messenger that will stop it loading at start up.

          cheers guys.

i ran ccleaner and it didnt work, ran msconfig and there a lot of things ticked, i presume some of them are not needed and using up memory or slowing things down.
which, if any should be removed, or if quicker shoud be left?
i was planning to go ubuntu, but i do like this win 7, so looking like i'll be staying here.

          mick.

av = antivirus, everything else untick
this will NOT uninstall messnger, just stop it from starting until you tell it to, and when you DO start it, it will put itself back in the startup list

anything connected with programes you can untick that you do not want to run on start up, anti virus you would leave alone also services.

you CAN, but windows is crap at uninstalling tbh, thats why most people use third party programmes such as cccleaner

if you also wanted to speed up the boot time while in msconfig and you have a milticore prosseser use the boot tab/advanced options there you can enable all the cores to be used in the boot up with a drop down box giving the option on how many cores to use and clicking on apply
