iv recently been playing with the remote desktop feature of windows 7

iv managed to control my laptop thats on my homegroup but iv got a few questions

    1. how do you connect to a pc over the internet rather that one in your homegroup
2.when remote controlling the pc how do u make it so the other user can see what your doing rather than just the logon screen

    1. to connect to computer from (or to) different network, you should have open ports for MS Terminal services on local router. It's 3389. Of course computer should have this option accessible too.
    2. MS has two feature - remote desktop and remote assistance. First gives you access to screen contents and turns off local screen. Second one gives you possibility to show to remote user something (he's watching what's you're doing). In this case connection could be established by invitation only (remote PC can not connect by it's owner wish).

To get it to work correctly you should have a Static IP address, Not a Dynamic IP address.

Teamviewer is good. No messing with firewalls and opening ports, just install and it works.

You can set it up so it allows connections from the internet or just your own network.

Unlike log-me-in you dont need to connect to a centeral server, so you dont need to log into a webpage to use it.

Been using teamviewer for years with no problems.

You can even send messages and voice chat with the person you remote into.
