Cap daughters internet

i was wondering if there is anything i can stick on daughters laptop to cap her usage, the other month she used over 60gb watchin crappy girly series/films on internet... i tried the settings on win7 and managed to stop utube and other sites she watches them on but the little sh*t always finds other sites.. although i managed to get her down to about 30gb last month i still want it less..
I'm looking for a programme of sorts that will let me cap her internet usage to 10gb a month.. i've tried a few things but they just tell me that i've reached a limit for the day but carry on goin, so it exceeds the limit.. I need something to stop it once it reaches a limit i want to set. I've had a look at QOS in the router but dont have a clue were to start on that..
Before anyone gets on their high horse and saying its down to the parenting i have tried allsorts to stop her doing it, but hey; she's 13 year old and they know best eh . i have took the laptop off her for a week and 2 weeks at a time, threaten to swap it with my breezeblock of a laptop, permenately stopped her ipod from accessing the internet.. kid doesnt listen ..
I don't like keep having to shout and tell kids off all the time;
like i say, just after cappin it at 10gb a month, let her go on whatever she wants, when its done 10gb thats it till new monthly allowance starts, when its run out after a couple of days she may start takin note

Change the wifi password when she reaches whatever the limit is you set.

you could get a seperate mobile internet contract with a 10 gig limit, costs around E20 per month here, not sure in uk.(in your name so she cant buy addons)

Just having a look about on the link you sent patkins, looks like i may have to get a different router that will take the tomato or dd-wrt firmware, will keep reading it see if there's out else it suggest, thanks.

Happy-h, thats looking like the best option, i will have a look to see if i can find somethin to monitor everyones usage; rather then looking over her shoulder everythime, i could stick netmeter on her lappy but she would probly just exit it thanks

You could look at it the other way and get an internet contract from talktalk or virgin with no limits, then let her do what she wants, that way you know she isn't hanging round street corners with her mates getting pissed and smoking.

If the worst things she gets up to is watching youtube and girlie films whats the harm?

The best thing would be to assign limitations to the device and certain periods throughout the day.

Give the laptop a static ip then only give internet access at certain times.

I dont think its the amount of data thats used more the time spent on the net.

You then control how long she is on for, also you can restrict keywords and websites by using this method too.

I put networx on it and sent her upstairs with a 10gb per month limit, will just keep an eye on it and when it reaches 10gb will cut it off..
I have talk talk unlimited broadband; but nowt is unlimited, if your using too much then they going to start looking into your usage, i us cs on my openbox so i dont want to risk them looking to far into things.
I have told her time and time again if she wants to watch a film i will download it for her on my pc, then she can watch it as many times as she likes; rather then watch same film 10 times on internet, and choking it up for rest of us..

the router you use should be able to control this option...otherwise get a vpn account, before she gets YOU in touble...its what I do do anyway.

Think i will get a router that supports the dd-wrt or tomato f/w. The ones i have dont support them.. Seems like you can do alot more with the router with one of those f/w installed.. I can't suss out what the vpn account does but will have a read about, Cheers

This is something that may work well for you. Lets you limit the amount of time each day that she can use the internet, or a pc period for that matter.

A better way might be to throttle her computer so that it is about as slow as a 56k modem, would pi$$ her off enough to do something other than surf.
