My usb conection on my extrenal hard drive has broken off the four solded points which keep them conected has broken off, When i take the casing apart and hold it back on with my fingers and put the usb lead back in i can get it to work, so all it needs doing is soldering back on!! my friend has just taken it to a computer shop and the guy said it would cost ?20 to solder it back on!! but it would be a fire hazard and most computer shops won't do it!! or he could put it in a new case!! I have a toshiba hard drive which is very nice and the case he said he would put it in is quite shity, could i just get some advice what is best for me to do? Is ?20 a lot of money for the job? is there somewhere i could take it to get it sorted? the hard driver is only a month old, but it has stuff on ie films which i have downloaded on line so would my warranity be void? Buy yourself a new case and put drive in that, even if you think its a crap case it'll probably perform just the same..
Or buy yourself a soldering kit and try fixing yourself.. -
some casing cant be replaced easy. be carefull if its a sealed drive

its a toshiba stor.e alu 2 320gb harddrive if that helps as i will give it a go if you let me know how hard it is? as this would be my first time at doing this!! thanks allComment
