Have you powered up the modem then switched on the PC once all lights have settled?

May just be an IP issue?

Could it be something to do with the filters they fit when they install your modem usually? Do you have any filters on the end of your coax connecting into your modem in your house? Does your friend have any filters?

Take the thing home and plug it in where its supposed to be plugged. If it has problems then call vm support and get them to fix your service !

As a point of interest, just because your friend is on the same road as you does NOT mean he is on the same UBR connection thus using the modem in the other location may have triggered some anti-cloning measures. Its usually not a good idea to use a subbed modem in different locations.
