VGA wire

hi all i have a laptop with windows vista on and ive just got a new tv with a pc connection si ive now got a vga wire going from my computer to my tv but when i put it on my tv ie pc it comes up saying no signal check connection??? i thought i just needed the wire obviously not do i need a download? any help with this at all its so i can watch the football on tv thanks again for looking

You shouldn't need to download anything.

After you connect with vga, put on correct tv channel and restart laptop, it should then pick it up. Don't forget for sound you will need to connect an audio cable from sound jack plug on laptop to tv.

you need to output your laptop to other than your laptop screen.
either function & f5 or f8 (the one with a screen on it)
or just right click on your desktop background and you can get into your display settings there.

you need to set up multiple displays in the graphics control pannel which should be in the control pannel on your laptop.
it could be a drop down box that will give you the option of tv plus laptop it will then ajust the the output resolution to suit your tv.

hi dasteph am lost i have looked in my contril panel but i just can not see graphics or multiple displays??? i hve now ever got my screensaver on my tv but nothing please any help and dont forget i am useing vista thanks again

hi me again think ive found it ive got my display settings up and in vista its in start the nvidia control when you press that it goes on your tv i went on multiples displays it comes up choose the nvidia display mode to use 1 only use the display(single) 2the same on both display(clone) 3 configured independtly from each other (duelview) which its on 3??? is that right then theres select the display you would like to use 1 analog dis laptop dis 2 laptop dis to analog dis 3 my display is not shown i press 3 another window comes up detect missing display that says rigorous display detection i press that and another window comes up saying additional displays not found unable to find tv would you like to connection enabled i press yes it flick on and off and comes back on my tv at this time i have no control over my computer its all on the tv then theres another select on same page select the display you want windows to us primary analog dis or laptop dis its on laptop please i feel that am close but not close enough any help please

the option you need is to clone your pc desktop to your tv, as i said in the earlier post there should be the option of tv + pc which should set the output resolution to your tv the resolution on the laptop will look larger than normal but will revert back when the tv is disconnected.
i run vista on my laptop and the above is the way mine works.

thanks very much is all on but no sound yes i have got a wire but it must be the wrong one so when i get that it will be all good thanks again

3.5mm stereo Jack both ends
the same end that's on the end of headphones
plug it in your headphone socket in laptop (output) then in TV PC audio in
