    Psu went bang

Is there any way to test the mobi after psu has gone bang (literary) to see if it has been taken with psu. I don't really fancy shelling out for another unit if the board has gone, I don't have another psu with 24 pin board connector. Open to ideas or somewhere to pick up a cheap psu. Nothing looks burnt out and fuse is soldered onto the psu board.

there is only a visual check you can make without any power to the board, if you are looking for a cheap psu try ebuyer you can get one for under eight pounds plus postage which is a twenty plus four pin connecter.

I'll second that. Used them for few years now and never had any problems.

Cheers for the input lads, I've decided to grab a cheap 500w from fleabay for ?14 so that I can test the rest of the pc which is getting old now (7 years) I will be building a new one later this year with a bit of luck. If the pc is ~~~~ed it'll do for a spare.
Best of it was I was converting paranormal activity at the time to stick it on dvd for my brother inlaw, spooky

The one that blew up was a more expensive one the whole pc is on it's way out mate, it needs 2 attempts to load the secondary hdd and all sorts but it's not been a bad old bus and I'm a sentimental tw@

I've gone for more expensive everything in the past, but not always seen the benefit,
I won't skimp on certain things like processor, graphics card, Ram.
but I think the belief of expensive is always best, is the philosophy of Apple.

The more expensive psu's have better amperage on the rails though, needed to run higher end gpus etc. Some cards and other high end components have power phasing and wont run at full capacity if the amperage is too low.

Also things like 80plus power efficiency and other technologies like over/under voltage protection is also worth the extra cash if using high end stuff.

Not to mention the expensive ones have much longer (usually sleeved) connector leads, them cheapy ones can be a pain in the arse to hook up when in a big case and are next to useless in bottom mounted psu cases without cable extenders.

Also highend psu's have much better capacitor aging, like OEM pc psu's must have. Them cheap ones loss amperage and overall wattage after awhile due to crap capcitors.
