    Download Ccleaner, install.
    Reboot PC. Boot into safe mode (no network, top of list, press f8 on bootup)

    While in safe mode. Find and delete following.

    X:\Program Files\xppoliceantivirus

    Delete whole folder.

    Next Click start>run and type regedit find and delete key

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\xp police antivirus

    Run ccleaner.
    Cleaner.
    clean up all temp files.

    Registry.
    Clean up reg.

    Tools.
    Click start up and check for unwanted start up programs. Look for anything pointing to XP police.

    Locat iehost.dll in windows directory. (not in sub directory, will be just X:\Windows\iehost.dll

    Rename it to iehost.old

    Reboot, Run avg, if it fails. reinstall it. Do a full system scan.

    X=system drive, norm C:\.

    Update post after.

        you could just go back to a "restore" point. this, often but not always, works. also the problem is, often, caused by a DLL file in the windows or on the root directory. it can be identified by its creation date and time. once deleted AVG will clean up with no problem, a scan by defender wont hurt either. i don't wish to preach, but if you have a firewall and anti virus, somebody has given permission for this to install. perhaps a talk on care when on web sites may be in order.
