XP was by far the best most stable OS, I use 7 Ultimate 64bit on desktop and laptop as it is a fresh XP but I still have XP pro in a virtual drive on the desktop and Xp pro on 2 laptops for car diagnostics

Installed 8 to have a look and biggest pile of poo ever for desktops and laptops, it is deffo for the tablet user

Ave got 7, XP and Mint on my desktop and Tiny7 on one lappy and XP on another.

There's nothing wrong with still running XP, just because MS want to kill it doesn't make it a bad OS.
XP is still great on lower spec machines and despite what MS say, 7 is shit on lower spec machines.
XP will run very well with a 2ghz single core processor and a gig of ram but 7 is pretty painful with the same hardware..

On higher spec machines Vista SP2 and 7 are probably better depending on your needs but all versions of Windows still need too much maintenance for average users imo.
A done 2 clean installs of 7 on a couple of lappys yesterday and they were no more than 13 months old and totally humped..

A tried 8 for about an hour and gave up the will to live, it took me long enough to drag myself away from XP as my primary OS and 8 is one a wont be upgrading to..

windows 7 home premium and linux Zorin mainly. Though I'm using windows 8 consumer preview at the moment which I quite like.
