    Android On PC?

I've recently slotted a spare HD into my PC just to use as a backup storage unit but then I decided that it may be prudent to install a backup OS onto it should anything go wrong with my primary drive.
I then got to thinking that it's a good opportunity to experiment with alternative OS's other than windows - Apple would never be an option because I'm not a knob - That may be open for debate but still, I'm not installing apple anything.
So I've decided that my choice would be Android.

What I want to know is whether it's possible to run it on a PC and, if so, would it run properly or would it be buggy as hell?

Preferably I'm thinking either ICS or Jelly Bean.

So tell me do, tell me true.... Is it possible or am I barking to the wrong choir?

As far as I'm aware you will need to be using an Intel Atom processor for it to work.

So fine on most netbooks, not so good for laptops, & no way on desktops.
