buy windows 7, youll end up wiping 8 and installing 7 anyway, because ms have managed to make a worse os than vista.
    Fave replies from various threads

1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

8 is a total pain on the desktop mate and its especially rubbish when you need your pc to actually do stuff, its totally geared for touch and only compromises the desktop/ laptop.
A have to admit that a was disgusted with it but reviews are very mixed in terms of the users age, younger people seem to tolerate/like 8 but anyone used to a traditional desktop are in shock at how bad it is.
Ave tried it twice on the desktop, the first time a ran the hack for the start menu and it was almost tolerable but since MS patched it a found 8 with no start menu too much work.

A have saw reviews where some users said after a few days they got used to it but a think they are missing the point, you shouldn't have to relearn your pc everytime MS want to move with the latest trend, especially if your doing real work or your a power user.
It depends on what your daughter likes, does she like the latest trend or is she a practical user.
Modern desktops power 7 with no problems and its gonna be supported till 2020 at minimum, which may be extended for desktop users who cant stand 8.
Also keep in mind that you can upgrade to 8 at anytime for peanuts so its not the end of the world if she doesn't want 7.

A installed 8 for one of my customers on Thursday, his Missus insisted she wanted 8 after seeing it on her friends tablet at work, a told her its different on a laptop but she insisted.
A got that laptop back this morning with a rather shocked looking customer, he said "could you remove this circus from my laptop and put a real OS back into it", he was totally shocked and his Missus thought it was a wind up because it worked that well on her pals tablet, kinda demonstrated to me the gulf between 8 on touch vs pc, the market is split right down the middle...

        My thoughts exactly pantomime horse...

Other guys have sum'd up well showing what a bad move it will be.... best Windows OS at the moment will have to be WIN7.

        Win8 reminds me of Vista.

i would say windows 7 for a desktop version and for doing daily things for work.

most people who have windows usually go back to windows 7 as said by the other comments.
any others that do not the use touch features provided by the operating system usually change
the start menu back to the classic through the registry or they use a skin on them based on windows 7

for office 2010 it will work fine with windows 8

You may prefer Windows 8 only for running tablet or a convertible notebook with touch screen. Without touch you lose your time. Office 2010 is ok on Windows 8

              Make sure it's Win 8

Office 2010 works fine on Windows 8 but not on Windows RT. Make sure you have windows 8 and not Win RT (Like on the new "Suface" tablets). You'll need to buy all new apps. for Win RT.

One other hint: Do not setup an MSN account, setup for local net. By doing this you WILL NOT be sharing everything with Microsoft.
