If you have a lot of movies or pictures or indeed documents on the hd why not load them onto a usb stick ... even a 16gb stick is now very reasonable price wise and that will free up a load of space for you. Copy them to the stick make sure they are ok and then delete from the hd.

Ideally you want about 10% free space minimum on your hd or you will find windows 7 running veeeeeerrrrrryyy sloooooowly.

As been stated, usb pens are getting cheaper all the time, i just bought a couple of 8gb pens today when a was in Asda, they were ?8 each, if you look a little harder am sure they are cheaper..
Check that your system restore isn't set too high, a don't use system restore but if i did i would have it at minimum.

This program can also claim a lot of space back with a standard scan.

58.5 gb is a reasonable amount of space for win7 (or any windows os) to run windows and any programs, I would typically expect you to use between 15 gig and 40 gig for windows and its programs and typically 20gb to 30gb

its also a small size considering most hdd are 120 gig to 1 tB in size, so check if you have a data or storage partition as well as the C drive. a good free program for checking hdd sizes and resizing partitions etc is easeUS partition manager

now assuming you have got more than one partition, store mp3 and films and pictures on the storage data partition and not on c drive (check your mydocuments folder for these files), moving them from mydocs to your storage partition, this will reduce the c drive used indication down from its current level but will increase the data stored on the storage partition

as also mentioned , you couls use a usb hdd or usb pen drive to store this stuff in order to reduce the stored files on drive c

I would have expected you to have a hdd of between 120 gig and 500 gig considering you are using win7, so I suspect you have more space available but are not using it

I agree ?40 buys you a 500gb external HD thats quite a few pen drives worth
or you can upgrade the Hd in the laptop to a bigger one same difference if your confidenent of opening the machine use a program like Paragon HD manager to image the exisiting disc OS and files onto the bigger hard drive ..done it many times myself, as the price of a bigger HD comes down I upgrade, shove as much RAM when its cheaper...who needs a new PC
