There is not an official release date yet, the RTM version which is normally the last version before final production is going to be released in a couple of weeks from now (April 22nd I think).. So if you wish to buy before the summer then you will have to suffer with Vista..Last edited by caveman_nige; 7 April, 2009, 12:45. -
i dont get the scare stories with vista.
i can honestly say its the best os from microsoft ive used.
ive never had a problem running it, and neither has any of my family or friends. people seem to hate the annoying popups asking for permission to do almost anything but i know just how idioticaly stupid people really are and idiots tend to get a fright when asked if theyre sure they want to install ~~~~-phone-dialer.xbk and say no.
before the advent of vista i spent ages diagnosing and fixing peoples computers, now i barely get a call, so its all good in terms of that alone. He who laughs last thinks slowest.Comment

Hi halau-
It is actually the Release Candidate that will be the next stage of Windows 7 to be released, then the RTM following that if Microsoft feels there is no need for RC2. All that aside, Windows 7 will likely be out the end of this year, early next year. Vista SP2 is also in the works and is currently out as a RC, so Vista users can look forward to that in the mean time.
I?ve seen some of the same complaints you have probably seen, but a lot of peoples? problems have simple solutions that people just don?t look for. Here are some tips Vista users can look into if they feel their performance is lagging: Optimize Windows?*Vista for better performance - Windows Vista Help
Cheers Everyone!

You can turn UAC off and stop it from asking for permissions all the time but it's not just that i hate.To me it's the like windows M.E. It's an OS that shouldn't have been brought out.
Conratulations on being in a very small minority of people who never have a problem with it. Evena straight forward task like adding a nas drive is a problem under vista.
@Halau if you want to buy another pc. Buy one and back up vista if you don't already have it on disk. Try it for a while then if you don't like it, uninstall it and run xp.
THE TRUTH
The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12
Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.Comment

Blimey Bill's boys must be busy running around sticking up for Vista.. I personally have no need for it.. I started to trial it on a client site but easily knocked it over and had to reload it three times in a day, therefore my confidence was lost in the product from the start. I also put it on a multiboot XP/Vista/Ubuntu on my laptop and it fell over after a a couple of months of light usage and quickly became unuseable warranting that partition to be deleted and the disk space given to more deserving stable OSs (the XP and Ubuntu still work fine).
However Halau as Jeff says you will have to wait about 9 months for a laptop to be sold with Windows 7 preloaded.
Although I have had to buy some new hardware for the office and the PCs all come with Vista they do not stay with that on them for long.. Most corporates have also chosen to bypass Vista and put SP3 on their proven trusty XP installations. I will definately be considering Windows 7 when it is released and have already recommended it to be used within a forthcoming infrastructure upgrade.
Halau, in short it will be about 9 months before you will be able to buy a laptop or PC with Windows 7 preloaded, until then it will be Vista, if you don't like it you can reload it. Its personal taste and what you need the machine to do... You could buy one and reload it with a copy of the Windows 7 RC, its a nice and stable operating system as it is right now...Comment

I?ve heard a lot of names, but Blimey Bill?s boy is certainly a new one . I?m (and the Windows Outreach Team) just here trying to help clear things up in discussions where Windows is being chatted about. Let me know if there are any further questions.

i use on a regular basis:
Slackware 12 on an old athalon computer thats used as a server now
Slackware 3 dual booted with Beos on a p166
Solaris 7 on an old SUN SPARC from fleabay.
Windows Vista premium on a couple of laptops
Vista ultimate on a workstation.
several flavours of OSX on a couple of mac's
DOS 3.3 on the oldest computer i have (an 8080 processor running at a blinding 25hz with a whole 720kb of ram and 20mb hdd 5.25" floppy drive as standard, cost me a metric shitload of cash back in the 80s) used purely to learn IBM ASSEMBLY and FORTRAN 77 on
ive got a few nas drives, an ups system, print server and some thoroughly obscure hardware connected to vista without a hitch, i found it to be fairly intuative.
Then again ive tried to find drivers for BSD installs and Beos in the past so im no doubt biased at the term "easy to install"He who laughs last thinks slowest.Comment

Hey Chas- Microsoft hasn?t yet announced the availability of the RC, but hopefully it will be as available as the Beta was to the general public. The coding team just put a blog post out about how they want people to go about moving from the Beta to the RC. Here is it if you are interested: MSDN Blog Postings ? Blog Archive ? I hated Vista with a vengenance.....anytime I got a new lappy it was on it, I never even bothered backing it up and put XP on.
Now we have W7....well I have the beta version running and to be perfectly honest.............its bloomin excellent, a couple of issues need sorted but hopefully by official release they will be sorted.
Sharing over a network with another lappy/PC not on W7 seems to be a right royal pain in the a$$. But besides that I am going to keep it on for a while, it looks good and seems well faster than Vista.sigpicComment
