what possesed you to do it in the first place? in 17 years ish of mucking about with computers (the last 10 being my main job) I've tried a bios update once maybe twice max. I read this earlier and knew this could have easily happened.. its just not worth the risk usually.
If I'm not mistaken, unless it has a backup bios (modern boards sometimes do) then you'll be looking to remove the eeprom chip and program it manually iirc. As lagarland said, hold on to it just incase but more than likely it'll sit gathering dust until you decide to chuck it.
was having problems, having to switch the thing off and on probably 8-10 times to get past the boot screen and thought a bios update might help,im not pc savvy and wouldnt have a clue where to start programing eeprom chip.
i had removed the bios battery, ram, dvd drive, hdd and tried the psu in another computer and it worked fine,so i thought bios was on the way out anyway, its easy in hindsight i guess
You are just digging a deeper hole and have to stop digging before you cann't get out. Your problem was caused by a corrupt system file or a Hard drive dying (Bad Sectors) , not the BIOS. Now that you have jacked up your bios your only hope to unbricking your PC is to reinstall your bios back to a previous version and do it from a floppy or bootable USB drive with the right "Flash" program for your PC . If I knew the "Motherboard" info I may be able to steer you in the right direction on what you need (software).
Once you fix the BIOS you can then fix the other problem and if you get that far I can step you though that also.
Firstly I would remove the battery from the motherboard and short it out to flatten it, then re-fit it. Then you can usually find older versions of the motherboard bios from the manufacturers website. Then try a flash. I used to be the biggest seller of second hand motherboards on Ebay, and spent many hours repairing them.
