sometimes the contacts on the sd card can get dirty and u could try cleaning them with some sort of solvent and seeing whether this makes it readable again

if recova doesn't work don't panic, first things to do...

plug card into usb drive, try a different pc/drive if available, as it could be a driver issue.

assuming you still have the problem... what version of windows are you using before i fly off in wrong direction.

this will help rule out a driver issue, next go to control panel -> Administrative tools -> Computer management

on the right hand side choose storage then disk management, hopefully you can still see your usb drive in the computer management although may show as raw or something else....

next install 'Easus data recovery wizard' (the trial edition will only recover 1gb, if your files are more than that (you may have to be a bit resourceful and acquire the registered version).

choose complete recovery then select all files, then select your USB drive then click next and wait.

I hope you recover them and then i hope your more careful with sentimental photos in the future.

I would try this first, even a cotton bud and some spit can help.

+1 for Recuva if the above doesnt help.

BTW It can recover files even after the card has been reformatted, so if you need to format the card again to get it recognised, you should still be able to recover at least 90% of the photos on it.
