Look for drivers online from mfr of laptop for win 7 then just get a copy of 7 format and then install. Job should be a good 1

Hmmmm! I've done the same thing, bought a new laptop....it comes with win8
I read that you can get a free downgrade to win7 but it effect the support form the supplier, manufacture

So how bad is win8 and can you switch off all the "we know where, what, and when your doing" privacy tracking shit on the OS --its even hard to put linux on because of bios lock that win8 install to protect from malware

          Any good advice

Depending on which version of 8 you have you can downgrade to Win7 using your win8 key.

Have a look at the MS site for downgrading.

I've saved you the time (see how kind I am).

If you have Win8Pro you can downgrade to Win7Pro...that's it.

Taking you didn't get 8Pro, download Win7 from a thread in this section.

Install as you would with any O/S (you may need to disable the 8 secure boot)

If you had Win8Pro you can use the key for 8, but will need to call MS to activate. If not, go looking for daz loader, WGA chew or any other activators.

Let us know how you get on mate, as far as i know the only company not supporting downgrade for drivers is HP.
Its strange, only a company like Microsoft could do their best to kill their best operating systems in XP and 7.
Apparently they are not making a 2nd service pack for 7, that will be handy when a clean install is needed in another years time, it currently stands at nearly 100 updates after SP1.

just go the new lappy, its cool
Already noticed windows 8 a lot like win 7 under the hood, when you dig in which I had to setting up the firewall
Can see why the newbie would like it but its a nightmare working around network zone and permissions

..and later have to refund the buyer as activation will [surely] fail as licenses are not transferable..?

You can not change legit version of windows because your manufacture guarantee becomes void if things do go wrong.

Yes if you install Classic Shell you get the old Start Menu back which is a must.

It's none of their business which software I run on the equipment I purchased.. there are never any warnings to say you cannot install linux [or any other software] for example.. which would be a perfectly legitimate thing to do.. these aren't consoles after all.. And even if it were burried in the manufacturer EULA somewhere I'm pretty sure it would be big news.. I mean.. apple.. locked-down.. need I say more..

manufacturers/retailers can shunt the blame for software faults.. [and I doubt you'd get a software fault done under warranty anyway.. given your supplied with recovery] but not hardware.. I'm pretty sure we're covered by some sort of law there..

iobit startmenu8 gives you back the familiar w7 start etc.

Some of the other startmenu progs are laden with trackers etc.

                            iobit seems to be OK.

                              cant see the problem myself

win8 is like win7 with an addon of this tile cr@p for tablets

as is mentioned above, just do the tweaks as recommended in computeractive and you can add classicshell or pokki or that iobit one above to add the start menu back in

then you obtain the reg file flyout that adds the shutdown/restart/etc facilities to the right mouse button on the desktop screen , and alter the gpservices msc to eliminate the login screen

like this info I found here

The first was to download ***8220;Classic Shell***8221; to get the start menu back and allow you to bypass the Metro front end.
                              _http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/]Welcome to Classic Shell

Next step was to disable the Lock screen that you get when Windows 8 boots up.

How to Eliminate the Time-Wasting Lock Screen in Windows 8

Following from that I set up Windows 8 to Logon automatically without having to type in a password.
                              _http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57457967-75/how-to-bypass-the-windows-8-log-in-screen/
How to bypass the Windows 8 log-in screen | Microsoft - CNET News]

Finally, for those who want program shortcuts on their desktop, the easiest way that I have found to do this is to find the relevant program on the metro/start screen,
right click on the icon then select ***8220;open file location***8221;.
When the file appears in explorer, right click on it and select ***8220;create shortcut***8221;.
The shortcut will then be placed on your desktop.
when you have done all this and start from the desktop its no different than running win7, as you dont access the tiles unless you wish to

neither have you invalidated any warranty, caused any real problems and win7 was there all the time once you do away with those metro tiles

I could put win7pro back on this laptop if I wished to, but I wouldnt see any difference at all to win8pro, or on my new samsung I7 laptop either which is win8 only, but I am running it in win7 desktop mode with the above tweaks
