There is usually 2 easy access covers on underneath laptops. 1 for ram other hdd housing. Just use a small phillips to gain access

          Search Youtube

There probably even a video showing how to do it for your specific laptop model

Post your laptop model and we can try and help you.

I've seen them vary from trap doors (most common), to slide out trays/cover and slide out drive, even seen a couple where the whole damn thing has to be stripped to get to the drive.

There is a little more information to know about
                  IBM Thinkpads!
The hard drive has to be a recognisable one to the Bios and also some Thinkpad will have a hard drive data lock to protect the data on the hard drive been run on another machine or copied

if you look on the thinkpads.com forum there is model and machine specific information and some helpful members

I use paragon Hard drive manager program to image the old hard drive to the newer one.
But none of it is difficult Chris -just step by step the nice think is Thinkpads are designed with hard drive swooping in mind.
                  Live dangerously -tear it apart
