i have a message under a white flag along the bottom bar of my laptop telling me windows defender needs to scan my computer,the white flag usually has messages from toshiba so it looks genuine but i've had the laptop 3 and a half years and i've never had this message before however i have recently done a factory re-set and changed my free anti virus from microsoft security essentials to comodo,what i need to know is if the windows defender is a genuine thing or some kind of virus.

because you have gone back to factory settings the white flag is a notification that windows defender has not scanned your pc for malicious software since resetting it.
