do i need more ram ?

ok guys - got an old compaq presario desktop pc..not much spec on it,but , i thought id put wondows 7 32bit on it...its working fine , evrythinmg installed fine, its a bit slow though, infact very slow...ram is only 760MB , processor is not great intel celeron 2.7ghz...browsing internet is slow...thought id set it up for the kids to mess around on...was thinking of putting in 2 sticks of 1GB ram pc2700 333mhz 184 pin...is it worth it ?..will it make it a bit quicker cos at the moment you cant seem to do two things at a time..very slow, cpu usage goes to nearly 100%..virtual memory around 80%??????

i think for win 7 to run ok-ish you need minimum pentium 4 processor x 2gb ram, i stuck win 7 32 bit on a celeron 3.2ghz and that was slow with 2x 1gb of ram, so i think you may be wasting ya time with that computer.

when it comes to pc hardware (parts) the rule of thumb generally always is buy the latest/fastest most expensive parts your budget allows as you will regret it in days/weeks/months depending on what you need to do or buy, its honestly as simple as that , a cheap-ish pc or laptop/tablet is potentially always a totally garbage one, trust me, I have built them all for decades now ( also always keep in mind the other parts your building around though such as the actual case/motherboard/etc etc etc depending on what is being upgraded.

(p.s, intel CPU's in general have always been the best ones to buy for many years now, but like I said, make sure its the best you can afford).

Way quicker than my processors ...but you need that ram 2gb minimum pref 4gb.
Consider sticking windows 10 on it as quite a few people (including me) saying it runs smoother on older gear.

well i installed the intel processor and nothing the pc wouldnt boot, just the front display lights on pc, internal fan on constantly...cant even turn off pc , had to pull power cable from back...then i realised i biought the wrong type of cpu, it was the correct socket type 478, but FSB 800MHz, and not the400 or 533MHz that my board can run..waiting for correct on too come..

Get 2GB of RAM, I think that's maximum for that motherboard.
Put P4 3.0GHz CPU, put new thermal paste and clean cooler and whole PC case from dust.
I prefer air compressor, you can see it on this video:

IMO, this is a waste of time and money, unless you have both. This pc has has seen better days. With the price of new PC these days ( like desktops ) for kids to play with, this would be a much better place to spend your money, especially if they want to play a game etc and the hardware is not up to date. ( think video )...but this is just me..

so small, I suggest you to replace it at least 2GB on win 7. If your laptop is 64 bit, be 4GB!
