if your normal speeds are far more than with newsgroups it sounds like a limiter or a setting thats different

for me i use a free news server from virgin and it maxes my connection within seconds of starting the nzb

there isnt too much to set in grabbit, thats why i use it in the tutorial

Do you have a router that you havent opened up a hole through ?

What size of files are you downloading m8 ? 50MB ?
How many seeds do you have downloading at once ?, in grabit you can download more than 20 odd at once.
Are you running a torrent prog as well? if so close it down as someone is uploading from you causing your download speed to be slow.

Are you trying to download at certain times of day? VM "shape the traffic profile" i.e. cut down the bandwidth after a certain amount of data has been downloaded (think it is between 10:00 and 15:00 and again between 16:00 and 21:00).

The quantity of data you can download before you are capped is dependant on the speed of your connection, as is the speed they limit you to.

More info here - Virgin Media Broadband:Traffic management - & Traffic management

(Moderators - not sure if I'm allowed to link to an external site like this. If I'm not, please accept my apologies and I will remove.)

          Cheers,

Hi read through the guild to newsgroups and seams ok and easy to follow, I have been using newsgroups for a number of years now, these are the progs use (may be of help). For the newsreader I use newsbin pro (find it here NewsBin NNTP Usenet Binary Newsgroup Robot) the latest version includes quick par and a search it also groups the files together in the search list. You can search with nzb files or just key words. It also puts the files back together for you as well leaving just the iso or img etc. to burn. You can trial the program for 10days.
AS for newsservers I use newsdemon (USENET Newsgroups - Uncensored Newsgroups and USENET access from Newsdemon.com) this is a pay server but retains for 400 days and allows 20 connections at the same time.
Using these two I max out my VM connection every time.

I've got a 20Mb link on the XL package, and can pretty much max that out on Newsbin and VM news servers.
