Windows 7 to xp (VmWare)

I am looking for a solution to my problem
i have one laptop with windows 7 installed i also have another laptop with xp pro installed, i would like to move the windows 7 to xp using some sort of virtual drive

i hear i can do this with VMWare, could some kind person tell me what i need to do and what i need to download, i have tried to use ultra iso to make an iso file of my C:/ but i misses all the hidden files.

you want to run the win7 in vm on the XP lappy does the Win7 need to be an image of the win7 installation from the other lappy or a fresh build..?

Yes it has to be an image of this laptop, i have some software on it and i hear the only way i can use it on other pc's is if i create an image and use vmware so thats what i need to do .

i seen another post you was involved about duel booting , was that with a vertual drive as well, im am intrested in that also as i would like to run 3 oparating systems on one machine, would that be possible ?

Yeah i run a couple of my test machines in triple boot with XP, vista and Ubuntu (some use Opensuse instead), but this is not using virtualisation, this is by loading them into their own partition on the hard disk.. This is a whole other subject, be aware that system restore in Vista does not function in a multiboot environment so do not expect Win7 to either as its built on the same kernel.. I also run on them some Win2003, and linux flavours using VMware...

I have not taken an image and tried to run it in Virtual on another piece of hardware, I haven't had the need to so far... you would need to make an image of your existing Win7 lappy with Ghost i guess and then try and use wmware workstation build a virtual machine and allocate disk space and memory etc (this can be altered later if you need).. You then start the virtual machine using the console and the box will act like it has nothing installed and will try and PXE boot looking for a network resource.. hit escape and it will say you need a bootable floopy or cd/dvd to load your image from.. Therefore the image you create using ghost will need to be bootable or you will need an ghost boot floppy to enable you to restore from a disk image etc.... I am not sure which version of VMWare works with Win7, not all will. my version only goes up to Vista.. By the way you will need to have Microsoft IIS installed the box that will house the VMWare.... I am not sure about using an ISO image and mounting using vm as this generally only any good for mounting applications not operating systems..

Use VMWare Convertor to P2V your Win7 installation then use either VMWare Workstation/Server to run the Win7 installation on your XP machine.

you just have to make sure u turn virtulization on in the bios
