    dell dimension l733r tower

    ive an old dell dimension l733r tower which i was intended to use for
    a cctv dvr,just found out it has a 10 gig hdd,and its a, ata connection
    can i upgrade the hdd to a ide or sata about 50 gig also would xp pro run on
    the dell or is it too much power hoggin

    IDE and ATA is the same thing (IDE old name for it but the one people still generally use). You won't be able to upgrade to SATA though

    Futhermore a lot of older computers like that won't take a hard drive bigger than 10gig so I wouldn't risk forking out any extra money for what is going to be an old and obsolete used hard drive.

    You shouldn't have any trouble installing XP but it will run slow. Have you considered using Linux or is that not an option?

      ive thought about using linux,but tryin to find cctv software for
      linux is like tryin to find a needle in a haystack,also i dont know if the dvr card will be compatable to run on linux,as far as i know
      the card works on win98 me,not tried it on xp pro,the dvr card is
      a jmk dvr card model number sk-2000f
