    New music download price-checker-

    -threatens to unseat pricey iTunes

A new price comparison website will help music fans who are fed up of paying 99p for every music track they download from iTunes.

The free tool, called TuneChecker.com, compares the prices for over nine million tracks at nine different download sites, allowing listeners to find the cheapest.

Enlarge TuneChecker.com reveals how music lovers can save 50 per cent on the latest downloads

It was set up by Martin Lewis, the consumer champion from moneysavingexpert.com.
Mr Lewis told MailOnline: 'People in the office were talking about what a pain it was to find music cheaply, I realised there was a real need for a service like Tunechecker.'
The website features the top 40 pop albums and singles to make it easier to search for popular tracks.

Consumers can regularly save more than 50 per cent on music, with popular singles such as Black Eyed Peas track Meet Me Halfway, priced between 29p and ?1.19.

Meanwhile the cheapest download of Susan Boyle's 'I dreamed a dream' is ?3.97 from Tesco compared to ?7.99 on iTunes, with the CD priced at ?7.68.
Mr Lewis said: 'Of the overall top 40 albums, Tesco is cheapest for 20, Tune Tribe for seven, we7 for six, Amazon for five, 7 digital for one and iTunes for one.
Many iPod owners do not realise they can buy cheaper music on websites other than iTunes, as most providers now don't use DRM (Digital Rights Managemen) to protect their tracks.

Mr Lews said: 'We hope to show users that there is a competitive marketplace out there. iPod users don't have to use iTunes to buy music; you can still compare and download music from other providers.'

The website also tells you where you can purchase the cheapest CD and features346 free MP3s including songs by Basement Jaxx and Oli Brown.
The full list of providers used is iTunes, Amazon, Play, 7digital, HMV, we7, Tesco, Orange & Tunetribe.

I thinks its fair to say that anything related to Apple is extremely overpriced. The Mac, Ipod and Itunes being the most glaring examples
