Hello. I need some Windows 7 advice on partitioning?

Hello. I have ventured over here from the automotive section. I am setting up a diagnostic software laptop and would greatly benefit from partitioning said laptop hard drive in order to install each automotive diagnostic software program in it's own environment. Long story short, most automotive diagnostic software platforms require different versions of JAVA to be installed and apparently don't like to be running next to each other. My ultimate goal would be to understand a little more about boot partitions and general Windows setup. I am no computer expert, but can usually follow a tutorial. If anyone can point me in the right direction for an existing tutorial, I'd be much obliged. if it matters, the current laptop is an Lenovo Thinkpad and it didn't come with a startup/install disk, but I could likely source one or just purchase another copy of Windows 7, if that's easier. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Thanks. I'm pretty clear on how to create partitions. It is the ability to create boot partitions, that I can install the individual programs to with their associated versions of secondary programs (Java, Internet Explorer, etc) that I am unclear on.

I think the easiest way to do that would be to have the various programmes on dvd's and just select the one you want to use at that time.
